Rusty Pettit – Corporate Safety Director
Rusty Pettit became Stewart Electric’s Safety Director in 2007. He has twenty-two years experience as a safety professional. He is an authorized OSHA instructor for the 500 and 502 courses with the University of Alabama and teaches our craftsmen the ten and thirty hour OSHA safety courses.
With a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction emphasizing safety courses from the University of Phoenix, Rusty has been active in developing curricula for Stewart Electric Co., Inc. Topics have included the NFPA 70e instruction, fall protection, hazard communication and excavation safety emphasizing electrical installation.
Rusty also manages our worker’s compensation cases, though they are few, and sees that the worker receives quick quality treatment and returns to work promptly. He also manages our drug and alcohol prevention plan doing on-site drug and alcohol tests for Stewart Electric Co., Inc.
Rusty played a roll in safety procedures and policies as well as taught important safety processes at the City of Huntsville/Madison County Consolidated Justice Center. Working in dust hazards and rescue operations for using a crane and basket to remove an injured worker from the roof were a couple of the courses Rusty designed and taught for the entire job site. He performed similar activities during the Huntsville Surgery Center project.
Rusty recently saw the need for smaller companies to have a safety professional. He has started a new consulting service (Pettit Safety solutions, Inc.) to help contractors get affordable safety management care at a fraction of the cost. Stewart Electric is supporting his efforts while keeping him as a consulting employee. He can be contacted at (256) 497-3092 for further information.
